WDO- Wood Destroying Organism Inspections
Wood destroying organism inspections or as is most commonly referred to as termite inspections is an ancillary inspection and typically must be requested by you for you to receive one. Not all inspectors can perform these type of inspections as the State of Ohio monitors inspectors for overall consistency in inspection and report writing methods. Therefore an inspector must be licensed by the state of Ohio to perform these types of inspections and a MPNA 33 form must be used provided by the Department of Agriculture. This standardized form is used by all wood destroying organism inspectors to guide you to a decision. Please see a sample below:
Why are these inspections labeled Wood Destroying Organism inspections and not just termite inspections?
In the state of Ohio there are actually several types of insects that may destroy wood. In addition to termites, carpenter ants, powder post beetles and other insects or organisms may destroy or consume wood. This is why you need an Ohio licensed and Ohio trained wood destroying organism inspector to look for insects that may be damaging your home. Please see below for examples of these insects. Not all of these insects are native to the Columbus and Central Ohio area but due to international migration, insects from around the world have been introduced to our community. Not all of the insects below will damage wood in your house but will kill trees. These are just samples for you for identification purposes.
Where do we look?
There can be many entry points for wood destroying organisms. Please read the article "Termites and Your Risks" for information regarding wood destroying organisms. Please look at the illustrations for some of the ways they may enter.

What Our Risks Are in Central Ohio?
You will note on the map of the United States that we are moderate to heavy when it comes to termite presence. That means in the Columbus and Central Ohio regions the termite population can be particularly aggressive when it comes to invading our homes.
While subterranean termites live in the ground, the frost line is 32 inches in our region. This means it is possible that they can be active all year.
Therefore it is a good idea to have me inspect your property for Wood Destroying Organisms while we are performing your full home inspection. Call or email me to schedule
